Nigig
Nigig (anishinaabemowin for “Otter”), is an Ojibwe Horse pony-mare born in 2012. Nigig is 12.2hh and she has a fully black coat, mane and tail. Nigig is very kind, honest, and calm, which makes her the perfect candidate for teachings kids how to ride.
Nigig is raised and owned by Darcy Whitecrow, who is allowing us to care for her at Grace Equestrian Centre. Nigig and her colt, Rain, were transported to our farm to help us raise local awareness about the Ojibwe Spirit Horse breed. Carolyn Hughes, owner of Grace Equestrian Centre, says “Our least favourite thing about Nigig is that we don’t actually own her, because we simply love having her here so much.”
Since Nigig has arrived in 2022, she has been trained to be a lesson pony and to give children pony rides at local events. She has also been ridden in the Northwest Natural’s Gymkhanas, and has done amazing with her young riders.
Nigig will be bred again in the future, to continue growing the Ojibwe Horse population. She is a very loving and affectionate mother to her current foal, Rain.
(Fun fact: Nigig and Nibi are half-siblings!)
